FRK model.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2015, Dan Mann was first asked to design a surfboard for Kelly Slater.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I knew right away what I wanted to make for him. I could see everything in my head \u2013 from the nose to the ride. How the volume would spread out along it. It’s probably the most intuitive design I’ve ever done, probably because I’ve spent so many years watching Kelly surf, and designing surfboards. As crazy as it sounds, I was sure it would suit him. The weird thing was, after I sent him the board in 2015, I didn’t hear from Kelly how it went, and I just moved on to other projects. Then, one afternoon in 2017, I suddenly got a flood of text messages about how Kelly had blown up at Trestles on my board. It caught me completely off guard. Text messages and phone calls were flying from all directions. After sifting through all the messages, I discovered that a good friend of Kelly’s from Florida, who was in town at the time, had picked up the board from Kelly’s storage shed, where it had been sitting untouched for two years. He surfed it and then told Kelly he would love it, because he “Known Kelly his whole life and has a good idea of \u200b\u200bwhat surfboards Kelly likes and doesn’t like, based on all the times the two have swapped surfboards in the past.” \u2013 Dan Mann.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wave type<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Like most shorts, the FRK is designed for performance surfing in critical conditions, up to 6 feet high. It is suitable for all types of waves with power, especially those with a steep slope. Recommended for waves 2-6 feet high, with a preference for average to very strong conditions.<\/p>\n

Characteristics<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

This is the shape that Dan Mann designed when he was first asked to make a board for Kelly Slater.<\/span>
\nThe board is a classic shortboard with medium rocker on the entry and exit, medium to low performance rails, and a double concave along the back of the board.<\/span>
\nThe result is a board perfect for performance surfing. Recommended to be combined with Kelly’s KS1 boards.<\/span><\/p>\n
